Grain Beetles

Grain beetles are a pantry’s worst nightmare. These pests attack your food sources like cereals, flour, breakfast foods, sugar, dried pasta, rice, fruit, and more. Any food stored for long periods of time that is undisturbed is their ideal food source. Without treatment, they can quickly ruin any of your food storage.

Characteristics

The adult beetles are brown and about 1/8′′ (2.5mm) long. Their flat, narrow bodies make it easy for them to enter cracks in storage areas or packaged materials. The thorax, the middle section of the beetle’s body, has saw-like projections on each side. Although they have fully developed wings, the beetles rarely fly. The worm-like larva is yellowish white, with a black head and three pairs of legs. A mature larva is about 1/8′′.

Harborage

Like all pantry pests, these bugs make their homes in pantries, basements, and anywhere with food storage. The less likely you are to interact with the food, the more likely they are to try and eat it and make a home there.
