Characteristics
Two connected red triangles on the underside that form a characteristic hourglass marking. Shiny, jet black, spherical abdomen with red hourglass shape on the bottom of the abdomen.
Adult females are about 1/2 inch, not including the legs (about 1.5 inches when legs are spread). Adult males are harmless, about half the female’s size, with smaller bodies and longer legs.
Harborage
These spiders commonly occur in outbuildings such as privies, sheds, and garages. Indoors, they prefer undisturbed, cluttered areas in basements and crawl spaces. Webs are usually built in woodpiles, rubble piles, under stones, in hollow stumps, and in rodent burrows.
Treatment
How we treat Black Widows
Our black widow treatment starts by applying our insecticide product to any and all spiderwebs. We also utilize a spray to any spiders directly and a unique powder application is applied to any areas they might be like corners, eaves, behind furniture, in storage areas, and more to prevent new spiders from appearing. Residual liquid sprays applied to the outside perimeter of the home are not as effective because of the black widow spider’s web-sitting behavior.
Our pest experts take a tailored approach when treating your property and work to ensure that your concerns are addressed and your home is protected, inside and out. We’re dedicated to providing you with peace of mind and making sure you enjoy your home.
