Indianmeal Moths are among the most invasive of pantry pests. They feed on grains, cereals, and fruits and have been known to eat through cardboard or other storage containers to access as spoil food resources. They can rapidly spread, making infestation devastating in a home.

Characteristics

½ inch long with a wing span of about ⅝ inch. Their forewings are reddish brown with a copper sheen on the outer two-thirds and gray on the inner third.

At rest the wings are held roof-like over the body. The head and thorax of the moth appears gray and the posterior brown, with a coppery sheen.

Harborage

Though common in more tropical areas like Florida, these moths will make a home wherever food is found. Typically found in pantries, food storage areas, and basements, they are persistent pests.
