Characteristics

House flies are 4 to 7.5mm long with hairy gray bodies displaying 4 black stripes. They have large compound eyes and oblong wings roughly the size of their bodies.

Harborage

House flies lay their eggs in warm damp places with ample food for their newly hatched young, most common places include, garbage cans, compost bins, and uncleaned pet waste in yards
They prefer corners and edges or thin objects to rest on. Indoors, they rest on floors, walls and ceilings during the day. Outdoors, they will rest on plants, the ground, fence wires, garbage cans etc. Night resting places are usually near sources of food and 5 to 15 feet of the ground.
